July
2007
Summer is here!!! The heat, the smell, ah,
the heat. I'm not a big fan of summer heat,
but I love the sun and the green and the smells
of it.
I just got back from a whirlwind tour of Winnipeg
where I attended the Winnipeg Folk Festival
retreat. What an amazing event! Spent three
days learning all about songwriting with Stephen
Fearing and meeting Christine Lavin, whom
I've always wanted to meet. A great time all
around.
Gordie and I've got lots of things happening
in the next few months, so read on McDuff!!
Take care out there.
Peace to you all. ~ Jane Eamon

song received an honourable mention in the
Unisong Contest in the Americana genre.

June
2007
After the record-setting temp of last Saturday,
I think it's safe to say summer has arrived
in the Okanagan. Makes me want to sit outside
and sip a cold one with my feet up.
Gordie and I are planning lots of little trips
this summer, playing here, there and everywhere.
I'm off to Revelstoke to play in a songwriters
night, then it's the Riverhouse Bistro in
Enderby for a little blues.
We hope to play in this year's Parks Alive
and who knows? We could be coming to your
town. Take care out there.
Peace to you all. ~ Jane Eamon

It's also available at Mosaic Books, Robbie

spiritual content of the CD is raising a few
eyebrows. People either really like it or
are turned off by it. Anything that creates
dialogue is worth something to me, I reckon.
Why not check it out?
I hear that Norm Strauss has released his
CD, Roger Gabriel's should be here pretty
quick. Andrew Smith is still working on his
and I'm sure there's more local CD's out there.
Support local music. Pick one up. Heck, while
you're at it buy them all!!!
That's all for now. Have a great month and
keep writing and supporting original music!!
January 2007 - Janey
Girl Newsletter
Welcome! Hope you all had a
wonderful holiday season - time well spent with
family and friends. It's a new year and an
exciting one to boot. Lots to look forward to.
CD NEWS
We
had our first national review in this month's
Penguin Eggs magazine. What a nice surprise.
Totally unexpected and nicely put. Here's the
review:
Deep Water - Janey Girl Music
Jane Eamon from Kelowna, BC, is fairly new to
the music scene with her first release back in
2002. Deep Water, her third and latest release,
is a blend of traditional music forms like
spirituals, bluegrass, gospel and blues with
old-time melodies that work very well. Her sweet
voice, well-crafted songs, poignant and timely
messages and charming instrumentation make for a
beautiful and heart- warming listen. Recommended
listens include Black Wind Blowin’, a protest
song against the Bush government’s handling of
the New Orleans hurricane tragedy; Move On Down,
a song about human struggle and hope, and Long
Way Down, a spiritual with a uniquely jazzy
twist. — By Philip Harries
Charming huh?
Other CD news
- Deep Water is going along nicely. Sales are
steady and people seem to be enjoying the CD.
Not quite the hoopla my last CD got, but some
very heartfelt comments along the way. It's all
good.
The CD is available at Mosaic Books and Robbie
Brown's Guitartown in Kelowna as well as CD Baby
and through our website online. We'll be touring
this year, so look for us on Vancouver Island
and eastern Canada this fall.
TOURING NEWS
We
are in the early stages of planning a lot of
mini tours across Canada this year to promote
Deep Water. It's going to be exciting as we've
never ventured into eastern Canada before. Scary
but exciting. Gigs start in Salmon Arm and
Barnhartvale this February where we feature at
two local community coffeehouses. March we're
part of a benefit with Smith Funk and Strauss
for the Willow Park Church. April sees us on
Vancouver Island, one of our favourite places to
play. May is the Life and Arts Festival with
another Duets show. June, Jane's teaching at Mae
Moore's Red Cedar Songwriting Camp, July we're
back on the island and August and September it's
off to the Maritimes and Ontario. Whew!!! By the
time we're done all that, we'll be ready for a
vacation.
Our gig schedule is posted on our website. It's
always updated, so check it regularly to see
where we're at.
SONGWRITING NEWS
I've decided to return to writing my songwriting
column - "So You Want To Write a Song". Starting
in February, I'm back with BC Musician Magazine.
I'll be writing a column every month about the
pitfalls and joys of songwriting. The articles
will also be posted on my website after the
magazine comes out.
I love songwriting. I love everything about it.
I love the joy of it and the pain, and it can be
quite painful sometimes. I hope to share this
journey. Send me an e-mail if you want to. It's
too easy to write in isolation and forget there
are others out there who feel the same as you
do.
More
songwriting......OTHER NEWS
Lots
of folks I know are producing or releasing CD's
soon. Yael Wand, a great singer songwriter from
Wells BC has released At Your Door. She's
touring a lot - in Kelowna at the Minstrel on
Feb 15 - so check her out. Her music is great.
Michael O'Neill, Roger Gabriel, Norm Strauss,
Andrew Smith - they're all working on CD's. And
they're all hugely talented so keep your eyes
peeled.
Until next month, keep Canadian original music
alive!!!
