SINGING HALLELUJAH

So desperate to remember
What he came here for
So eager, so breathless he forgets
The crutches he’s been carrying
Lay broken on the floor
And he falls into a sea of old regrets
Ghosts of bridges burning
And enemies he’s made
Leave behind an acrid bitter taste
He’s waiting for redemption
Or some way to be saved
He curses every line on his face

Singing Hallelu, Hallelu, Hallelujah

He’s takes a good long look
At the person in the mirror
Wonders who it is and where’d he go
There’s no justice in the aging
No reason to this life
Just a silent litany of growing old
Every time he’s staggered
Neath the weight of something lost
Now penetrates the fortress he has made
He damns the silent pictures
And thinks about the cost
Hates that it’s all stirring up again

Singing Hallelu, Hallelu, Hallelujah

He pours another whiskey
Though he’s had too much to drink
The ice in the glass the only sound
He lets the voices clamour
To lead him to the brink
As the glass falls empty to the ground
Singing Hallelu, Hallelu, Hallelujah
Singing Hallelu, Hallelu, Hallelujah
